Pat Bamford Signs With Sheffield United After Initiating Derogatory Chants Targeting Coach Wilder

Patrick Bamford has joined the Championship side only half a year following instigating disrespectful chants directed at their manager, Wilder.

This experienced striker, a free agent after departing from Leeds, has signed a deal joining the Championship strugglers through the winter. Bamford's seven-year career with Leeds finished amicably this past summer.

Among Bamford’s last memorable actions while at Leeds included starting abusive chants regarding Chris Wilder amid Leeds' promotion celebrations this spring. Now, the one-cap England player will be playing for Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to lift the team he loves away from the bottom places.

Past Conflict Involving the Striker and Wilder

The pair had a past prior to Leeds earned promotion to the Premier League the previous campaign and United lost the promotion decider to Sunderland. Wilder described the forward as a "muppet" when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United won direct promotion while Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.

Making Amends & Moving Forward

Everything seems has been resolved with United, the league's lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement in attack while Bamford aiming to rejuvenate his playing days.

The Wilder chant spread widely in April. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the next day.

Chris Wilder commented back then: “Spoke with Pat yesterday and I have no issue at all with that. I'm uncertain about the language from a fellow pro! However I valued and respected him giving me a call.

“We spent a short while and the same again I talked with Daniel too and we had a longer discussion with him and he's a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we used to give it and accept it and that is part and parcel of the game at every level, including Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I told him that to Pat.”

Latest Career Challenges

Bamford made 18 games for Leeds last season however the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC and Middlesbrough striker has struggled with injury in recent years.
